About

Livingston Community Shed

Livingston Community Shed was established in 2022 to create a welcoming place for people aged 18 and over to connect, make friends, share skills, and contribute positively to communities across Livingston.

What we're all about

As a member organisation of the Scottish Men’s Shed Association, our focus is on improving mental wellbeing, reducing isolation, and supporting the overall health and happiness of our members. Above all, the Shed is about friendship, purpose, and feeling part of something.

Our members come from a wide range of backgrounds, bringing with them different life experiences, careers, and skills. Whether you’re hands-on, keen to learn something new, or simply enjoy good company, there’s a place for you here.

When & Where

We meet regularly throughout the week in Carmondean:

  • Mondays & Fridays, from 10am
    The Barn Community Café
    Carmondean Community Centre
    Nether Dechmont, Livingston, EH54 8AX

  • Tuesdays & Thursdays
In the garden behind the South Barn, opposite the café (which is closed on these days)

You’re always welcome to drop in, have a chat, and see what we’re up to.

What We Do

We’re actively involved in a wide range of community projects across Livingston. These include:

  • Maintaining and caring for community gardens

  • Furniture repair and refurbishment, including benches

  • General upkeep of local outdoor spaces

Some of our more green-fingered members help tidy and improve public gardens around the town, while others enjoy woodworking and practical projects using the Shed’s equipment.

Skills, Tools & Learning

The Shed has a variety of tools and equipment available, including woodworking machinery such as lathes, table saws, bench drills, and sanders. Members are encouraged to share knowledge, learn from one another, and gain confidence using tools in a safe, supportive environment.

No prior experience is needed; just curiosity and a willingness to get involved.

What Is A Community Shed?

A community shed is a welcoming, informal space where people come together to connect, share skills, and support one another. Inspired by the Men’s Shed movement, sheds offer a place to work on practical projects, learn new skills, and enjoy good company without pressure or expectation.

Community sheds are about friendship, purpose, and wellbeing. Whether you’re hands-on, creative, or simply enjoy a chat and a cuppa, a shed is a place to feel included and valued.
