| Polbeth
& West Calder Community Garden Visit |

On Wednesday 21st August we attended a meeting of WLCAN (West Lothian Climate Action Network) at Polbeth. As part of the meeting we had a guided tour of the growing areas which was conducted by the facility manager Amy. |

In the community garden there are two large poly tunnels which grow a variety of vegetables, herbs flowers and plants. The plants are sold throughout the year. The also have extensive outdoor beds growing a variety of vegetables and herbs as well as a fruit growing area with different types of fruit trees and bushes. |

The Community Gardens try and use sustainable methods of cultivation, gathering rain water for the irrigation system, making their own compost and using solar power. The community woodland offers visitors a chance to explore and learn about the various plants and trees along several trails and members of the public are encouraged to use the picnic area. |
Hopefully we can utilise the same methods as we develop our community garden at Carmondean. |
